President Li Xiaolin Attended "Every Woman Every Child" High-level Event During United Nations General Assembly

At the invitation of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, President Li Xiaolin visited New York from September 23 to 27. During the visit, she attended the "Every Woman Every Child" high-level event which was held during the 69th United Nations General Assembly and deliver a speech at the opening session. In her speech, President Li spoke highly of the positive role played by "Every Woman Every Child" movement in improving women and children’s health globally since it’s launched by UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon. She announced that CPAFFC and Every Woman Every Child project team under the Executive Office of UN Secretary-General will jointly establish China Partnership Network, and will involve more Chinese enterprises, civil society organizations and academic institutes in the improvement of women and children’s health. The Network will serve as a platform for these parties for cooperation. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon hosted the opening session, and called on more national governments and civil society organizations to participate in the Every Woman Every Child movement so as to realize the set goals of the movement at an early date. More than 600 world leaders from political, economic and academic circles attended the event and shared experience and thoughts on further improving women and children’s health worldwide, including Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of Tanzania, Mr. Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, Ms. Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of World Bank Group, Dr. Margaret Chan, Director-General of WHO, Ms. Sue Desmond-Hellman, CEO of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Madam Margaret Kenyatta, First Lady of Kenya, and Ms. Kim Simplis-Barrow, First Lady of Belize. Women and children’s health work drew more attention from many national governments, civil society organizations and enterprises due to the promotion of Every Woman Every Child movement. During this time’s event, a total of 5 billion USD was committed to support the movement by national governments such as Canada, Norway and the United States, international organizations like World Bank Group and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and enterprises from different countries.
During the visit, President Li Xiaolin also met with Mr. Wu Hongbo, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Mr. Soopakij Chearavanont, Executive Vice Chairman of Chia Tai Group, to discuss future cooperation projects.
